In September 2023, Texas Senate Bill 14 (SB 14) took effect. This law banned “gender transition” medical interventions like puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and genital mutilation surgeries from being performed on children. These surgeries and pills are extremely harmful in both the short term and long term. Since this bill became law, some doctors continue to perform these surgeries but have become better at hiding their now illegal actions.
One El Paso doctor, though, was caught red-handed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Dr. Hector Granados is being sued for giving children cross-sex hormones, and puberty blockers, and falsifying records in an attempt to conceal his crimes. One source says the lawsuit includes more than twenty instances where Granados broke the law. The children Granados was allegedly giving puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to were between the ages of 12 and 17. This case won’t end with jail time for Granados, but if he’s found guilty, it will result in financial punishment and the loss of his medical license.
Paxton said, “Texas is cracking down on doctors illegally prescribing dangerous ‘gender transition’ drugs to children. State law forbids prescribing these interventions to minors because they have irreversible and damaging effects. Any physician found doing so will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.” Paxton continues to be a champion for children and a fighter for the rights of Texas families!
Earlier this month, Paxton filed a similar lawsuit against a Dallas-based pediatrician who also violated SB 14. Dr. May Lau is accused of providing cross-sex hormones to at least 21 different children and falsifying the evidence of her actions.
We’re expecting more and more of these cases will be popping up around the state in the coming months. The outcomes of these two cases will set the precedent for what the Office of the Attorney General can do to protect children from radical and dangerous sex change surgeries. Hopefully, these cases will deter potential offenders from committing crimes against children.
