On Tuesday, April 15th, the Texas Capitol witnessed the unwavering voice of pro-family, pro-life conservatism as Brady Gray, President of Texas Family Project, and Kaden Lopez,

Executive Director, stepped up to defend one of our most sacred institutions—the family.

Testifying before legislators in Austin, Gray and Lopez spoke boldly in favor of two critical pieces of legislation authored by Representative Nate Schatzline (R-Fort Worth) —House Bill 5302 and House Bill 5539—both aimed at making adoption more accessible, transparent, and family-centered in the state of Texas.

Texas House Bill 5302: A Lifeline for Adoptive Families

Texas House Bill 5302 (HB 5302) seeks to create an adoption assistance program that provides financial support to families who have opened their hearts and homes to children in need. Adoption is not just an act of kindness—it’s an act of courage and deep responsibility. Many adoptive families bear the heavy burden of additional costs, especially when caring for children who require therapy or specialized support.

As Christians, we believe caring for orphans and vulnerable children is a Biblical mandate as commanded is James 1:27. HB 5302 affirms this principle by equipping families with the tools they need to care for these precious lives. In doing so, it empowers the family unit, protects life, and reflects the values our nation was built on—faith, compassion, and individual responsibility. You can see our testimony here and here.

Texas House Bill 5539: Bringing Transparency to the Adoption Process

Adoption today is tragically out of reach for many loving, qualified parents due to overwhelming costs and red tape. With expenses ranging from $20,000 to $40,000, and a process that can drag on for years, something has to change. House Bill 5539 (HB 5539) demands transparency from adoption agencies, requiring them to disclose costs up front.

It’s simple: truth brings freedom. Prospective parents deserve to know what lies ahead financially so they can make informed decisions and prepare responsibly. This is about eliminating barriers to life-affirming choices and opening the door to families who might otherwise be discouraged. You can see our full testimony here.

Adoption: The True Alternative to Abortion

At the core of our advocacy lies a simple but profound truth: the most powerful answer to an unexpected pregnancy is adoption, not abortion. Every child is created in the image of God. Every life has purpose. When we promote adoption, we aren’t just offering an alternative to abortion—we are offering hope, healing, and a future.

Texas Family Project proudly thanks Representative Schatzline for his principled leadership and steadfast commitment to family values. These bills are not just about policy—they are about people. They are about defending life, empowering families, and restoring a culture that values children not as burdens, but as blessings.

We remain committed to supporting legislation to strengthen adoption, uphold the sanctity of life, and put Texas families first.

TFP is on the front lines for Texas families, as the Left continues waging their anti-family war, and will not back down.
