Texas Politicians Respond To Prosecution Of Doctor Who EXPOSED “Gender-Affirming Care”

Last week we reported on the prosecution of Dr. Eithan Haim, a doctor who blew the whistle on Texas Children’s Hospital’s “gender-affirming care” department. He is currently facing up to ten years in prison. A few Texas politicians have stepped up in defense of Dr. Eithan Haim and are demanding actions taken against Dr. Haim end immediately.

This Texas Children’s Hospital doctor is being prosecuted for something that happened a few years back after an opinion issued by the Texas Attorney General’s office. Before the Texas legislature banned child sex change procedures Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an opinion stating that child sex change procedures constitute child abuse in the state of Texas. As a result of that opinion, Texas Children’s Hospital announced that they would be shutting down their department that is responsible for child sex change surgeries. Dr. Eithan Haim was hearing stories from his coworkers about these surgeries still happening. Dr. Haim then confirmed the existence of these surgeries and blew the whistle on the operation. He claims that he knew the risks going into it but he had a larger moral obligation to expose what was happening.

In response to this situation, the Department of Justice went after the doctor, not the hospital. He is now facing up to ten years in prison and a few Texas politicians are stepping up. Senator Ted Cruz sent a letter to the prosecutor with some strong opinions in support of the doctor. Senator Cruz stated, “While the prosecution of Dr. Haim is troubling, it is not surprising. Political prosecution of whistleblowers not only undermines the integrity of the Department of Justice but also sets a dangerous precedent for intimidating others from exposing wrongdoing. It has no place in our system of justice.”

Texas State Representative Brian Harrison has been extremely vocal on the issue. Representative Harrison has taken multiple actions to help Dr. Haim in this case. First, Harrison put in a request for Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan to hold hearings and investigate federal officials and hospital leadership. Yesterday Representative Harrison announced that it has been a week since the request and there has been no response from Speaker Phelan. In addition to the request to Speaker Phelan, Representative Harrison also issued a request to Texas Health and Human Services to investigate Texas Children’s Hospital for potential Medicaid fraud in relation to the incident exposed by Dr. Haim.

The prosecution of Dr. Eithan Haim is a clear attempt to silence whistleblowers from exposing abuse against children. Texas Children’s Hospital was the one in the wrong yet the person who called it out is the one being prosecuted. It is important that Texas politicians like Representative Harrison and Senator Cruz step up and bring justice to this case. Dr. Haim’s actions are commendable and brave and we hope people will continue to call out abuse against children when they see it.
