This week, the Texas Legislature took a stand for our children, our families, and the moral foundation of our educational system. In a political climate too often dominated by bureaucracy and activist agendas, three commonsense bills emerged from the Texas Senate that reflect the values of responsibility, accountability, and protection for the most vulnerable among us—our children.
Senate Bill 1224: Prioritizing Justice and Transparency
Senator Kevin Sparks (R-Midland) introduced Senate Bill 1224, a straightforward but critical measure requiring school superintendents to notify law enforcement within 48 hours of hearing a report involving a teacher violating a student. This is not just policy—it’s a moral obligation. For far too long, bureaucratic red tape and fear of public image have allowed predators to go unchecked. SB 1224 ensures justice is swift, and students are protected from further harm.
Brady Gray, President of Texas Family Project, testified in strong support of the bill. His backing sends a clear message: Christian conservatives are not standing on the sidelines. We are engaging in the fight to protect children and uphold truth. When children are harmed, silence is not an option. Action is not just appropriate—it’s required.
Senate Bill 1832: Empowering Families and Defending Victims
Equally important is Senate Bill 1832 by Senator Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound), which takes the next step by supporting the victims of such crimes. This bill provides funding to help students who have been victimized by a teacher transfer to another school, including private and faith-based institutions. It’s a compassionate, just response that aligns with both Christian values and conservative principles: helping the innocent, restoring dignity, and giving families the freedom to choose what’s best for their children.
Again, Brady testified in favor, rightly calling the bill a “just and commonsense solution.” He’s right. When a child is harmed, they deserve more than sympathy—they deserve a path forward. SB 1832 offers just that.
Senate Bill 2392: Expanding Accountability
Finally, Senate Bill 2392 by Senator Phil King (R-Weatherford) builds on the foundation laid by SB 1224 by extending the reporting requirement to principals. This bill ensures that at every level of leadership, school officials are held responsible for protecting students. It sends a strong signal: no more cover ups, no more excuses. The days of looking the other way are over.
These bills reflect what Christian conservatives have always known: God entrusts us with the responsibility to protect the innocent and uphold justice. Government should serve the people, not special interests, not unions, and certainly not those who abuse their positions of authority to harm children.
This week in Austin, we saw real leadership. We saw lawmakers and advocates, like Senator Sparks, Senator Parker, Senator King, and Brady Gray, prioritize truth, accountability, and family values. Let’s pray their courage continues to inspire action across the nation!
